Magistrate Ashley Newlon Appointed to SCO Subcommittee

9/17/2019

The Court is pleased to announce that Magistrate Ashley Newlon has been appointed to the Supreme Court's Subcommittee on Family Law Reform.  The Subcommittee on Family Law Reform Implementation is co-chaired by Judge Denise McColley, Henry County Family Court and Magistrate Serpil Ergun of the Cuyahoga County Domestic Relations Court.  The Subcommittee was formed to implement the recommendations of the Advisory Committee’s 2005 Report on Family Law Reform.  The Subcommittee has been instrumental in creating standards for guardians ad litem under Superintendence Rule 48, making changes to Superintendence Rule 44 to recognize the confidential nature of domestic relations and juvenile court records in a “family file,” and drafting legislative changes to make Ohio’s statutes involving parenting issues more child-centered.  Earlier this year, separate workgroups completed domestic relations bench cards and standards for custody evaluators.
