The Cuyahoga County Domestic Relations Court is pleased to announce that it has been selected to participate in the Family Justice initiative Project, a partnership of the National Council for State Courts, the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System, and the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. In collaboration with the Conference of Chief Justices and the Conference of State Court Administrators, the goal of the FJI Project is to evaluate and improve the way courts handle domestic relations cases. The Court participated in Phase 1 of the project, the first-ever landscape study of domestic relations litigation and processes, along with 11 other jurisdictions across the United States. Phase 1 assessed the current landscape and best practices in domestic relations cases using caseload data from over 147,000 cases across the country. The assessment was used to develop guiding principles and recommendations to improve domestic relations proceedings, legislation, rules and practices that impact resolutions for families. As part of Phase 4, the Cuyahoga Domestic Relations Court, along with courts in Miami-Dade County, FL, Maricopa County, AZ, and King County, WA, will pilot the FJI Principles and Pathways and share its successes in improving the management of domestic relations cases with the court community. Administrative Judge Leslie Ann Celebrezze said, “It is an honor to collaborate on strategies to improve court processes that promote better outcomes for families.
